Crossing Borders is a community initiative developed in partnership between The Lakeland Community & STEAM Center, CASA de Maryland, and Lakeland Community Association Partnership (LCAP). The program’s launch and first year of dialogues and events is funded in part by the small grants program of the South Baltimore Gateway Partnership (SBGP).

The goal of the Crossing Borders: Community Conversations program is to connect Latinx, immigrant and African American communities in Lakeland through a series of workshop sessions focusing on building a strong multiracial foundation of community leaders. Our hope is to identify commonalities across demographic groups in Lakeland, in order to bridge the knowledge gaps that our diverse communities have about each other. In short, we are aiming to cross the borders of understanding and see the shared history, challenges and opportunities our diverse communities have in Lakeland as a whole.
