Position name: Afterschool STEAM Program Facilitator

Position dates: Spring term (week of February 7 to week of May 30, 2022 at the latest)

Position location: LC+SC (2921 Stranden Rd, Baltimore 21230 MD)

Format: on-site or remote (depending on program)

Responsibilities & Expectations

  • Teach afterschool programs while leading our STEAM students in meaningful and fun enrichment activities so as to develop their curiosity in real-world matters.

  • Be ready to conduct activities indoors and outdoors when in-person - weather permitting.

  • Be responsible for your program’s logistics (tracking attendance, maintaining fluid communication with other LC+SC staff, have appropriate classroom management).

  • Be available to participate in the Professional Development sessions required to lead the different programs.

General Requirements

  • Have a demonstrable interest in any of the areas involved in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math).

  • Have demonstrable experience working with children aged K-8 in formal or informal settings.

  • Have experience teaching or leading educational activities, programs, or classes.

  • Have a learner mindset, and a desire to work as part of a team.

  • Preferred: knowledge of Spanish (spoken).

COVID-19 Requirements

As a staff member, we require you to be fully vaccinated and boosted against COVID-19 for the safety of everyone involved in our programs. You will be required to show proof of vaccination upon signing your contract. Additionally, everyone involved in our afterschool programs must wear a mask that fits snuggly and properly covers their mouth and nose at all times. Staff and students must also participate in a daily health check (temperature check and symptom questions) before starting their sessions.

 

BCPSS Requirements

As a close school partner, the Baltimore City Public School System (BCPSS) requires every adult in contact with their students to do a background check at their headquarters on North Ave. We will provide information on how to do this, and UMBC will pay for the required fee.

 

Hours and Compensation

  • Spring STEAM afterschool facilitators will work for up to 2hs on each day of their program (approximately 3pm to 5pm), which includes prep time, teaching time, and clean up.

  • Spring programs will run from February to May - specific dates TBD depending on the program. 

  • Instructors will be paid our rate of 80 dollars a session, which covers prep time, teaching time, and clean up. Facilitators will be provided with all the lesson plans and curriculum for their program.

  • Instructors will also be compensated for their training time with an additional 150-dollar stipend for attending the required training sessions (1-2, depending on the program), and the Spring term orientation and close-out meetings at the LC+SC (dates TBD).
