Curious Creators - 7th and 8th grade - IN PERSON PROGRAM
Welcome, Ms Harris, to after-school!
Our wonderful Lakeland Art teacher is teaming up with the LC+SC to offer a fun, interactive, and creative arts class in which students will also learn to use their agency, assert their value, and create their own ways of expressing themselves.
Grade: 7th and 8th grade
In-person sessions: Tuesdays, 3pm - 4.30pm in Ms Harris’ classroom in the school.
Duration: 5 weeks (starts the week after Spring Break, in April)

WeDo 2.0: 1st grade - IN PERSON
Science with Legos? Sign me up!
This award winning program is based upon the latest science standards and was created to enhance students' curiosity and science skills. Students will learn to work on science challenges using Lego pieces, sensors, motors, computer software, and more!
Grade: 1st grade

Robotics Club - 6th grade - IN PERSON
If you are interested in robotics and coding, this is the place to be!
One of the most successful teams at Lakeland EMS through the years has been our Lakeland Builders who participate every year in the FIRST LEGO League competition. This is a competitive program which only accepts 10 students in their team every season. So, if coding and building LEGO robots to accomplish fun missions sounds like fun, join our Robotics Club this Spring, and get a taste of what our FLL team works on every Fall… maybe you’ll become our newest team members next season!
You don’t need any previous coding knowledge. Just need to have a passion for it!

Ms Froneberger is back at it!
If you ever had the chance to participate in her Food Science program as a younger student, then you know 3rd grade is in for a treat!
Ms Froneberger is coming back with a health and nutrition program! In it, students will learn basic concepts of nutrition and healthy living, and they will participate in fun science experiments using common ingredients and creative techniques.

Design Lab: - 5th and 4th grade - IN PERSON
Let your creativity fly!
In this hands-on design program, Lakeland’s own, Ms Tina, will guide students in a creative adventure in which you’ll learn how to use your imagination and creativity trying out different elements of design, so that only the sky’s the limit!
Ms T will take you from using a special software to create your personalized designs, to printing your designs onto shirts, pillows, mugs, and water bottles. Can you imagine wearing your own designs?!
Join us if you’d like to give this die cutting class a try!

LEGO Coding Express - Kindergarten - IN PERSON
It’s never too early to learn coding!
We know our Lakeland students love learning with Legos, so even our littlest ones can now learn about coding and robotics with this program.
Coding Express is a creative program that introduces preschoolers to early coding and critical 21st century skills, while naturally sparking their curiosity, creativity and desire to explore and learn together. Make your train pause, stop, change direction, sound the horn, and more! Based on the ever-popular train theme, this program allows children to intuitively explore early coding concepts while developing problem-solving skills, critical thinking and collaboration.
Grade: Kindergarten

Meet Me In The Kitchen! - 6th grade - IN PERSON
A new way of learning!
In MMITK you will learn to see cooking from all angles: you will see how important it is to have locally-sourced foods, learn cooking techniques, understand the importance of food safety, learn notions of entrepreneurship, and discuss the value in eating nutritious and colorful foods daily.
Ms Amy and Dr Shauna from University of Maryland Extension will guide you in this hands-on culinary experience.
Grade: 6th grade

CyberPatriot: Cybersecurity sessions - 6th through 8th grade - HYBRID PROGRAM
This Spring, join our CyberPatriot students!
This Spring, since the CyberPatriot competition season is over, our Coach, Ms Smith, will be working with students on concepts of cybersecurity that go beyond the competition, such as hashing and hacking.
If you are interested in learning about these topics, as well as understanding how to identify cyber threats, and learn how to protect networks and devices, then sign up for this Spring session!
Grades: 6th through 8th grade
