Our Mission
The Lakeland Community and STEAM Center (LCSC) is a welcoming hub for people of all ages and cultures. We adapt and co-create STEAM, youth, adult and community programming with and for the Lakeland community, so we may learn, grow, explore, and thrive.
The LCSC promotes community members to solve problems, and play together in a curious, healthy and collaborative way that makes Lakeland an engaging and safe place to raise children. We do all this using a “village” model. Multiple partners make it possible for children and families to be engaged in after school programs, special events and field trips aimed at improving their skills in problem-solving, science, technology, engineering, arts, athletics and math so that they will have the confidence and ability to pursue educational and career opportunities in STEAM.

Community & Family Engagement
LCSC prioritizes developing strong multigenerational relationships with Lakeland families with the mission of creating programming that aligns with the community's interests and needs. Throughout the year the Lakeland Community & STEAM Center hosts family and community engagement activities for of all ages!
Youth Development
Sharing our building with Lakeland Elementary Middle School, the Lakeland Community & STEAM Center works collaboratively with the Community School and multiple partners to make Lakeland an engaging and safe place to raise children. Programming partners like Media Rhythm Institute and LET’S GO Boys and Girls, help children improve their skills and confidence in problem-solving, science, technology, engineering, arts, athletics and math.
Cross-Cultural Engagement
LCSC works to create a diverse space where multigenerational and multicultural Lakeland Community members can become active and civically engaged with children, parents, friends, teachers, and neighbors. One of the main initiatives to foster this space is our program Crossing Borders, a community conversations program that connects Latinx, immigrant and African American communities in Lakeland resulting in a strong multiracial foundation of community leaders.
